With Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn providing the official proclamation that Oct. 23-29 is “Bioscience Week” in Tampa Bay and Gov. Rick Scott announcing via video that it was “Bioscience Week” in the state, the momentum and energy associated with Florida’s burgeoning bioscience industry was very much on display at the 14th Annual BioFlorida Conference. keynotes at BioFlorida’s 14th Annual Conference scheduled for Oct. 23-25

The Central Chapter of BioFlorida and bioOrlando will partner with the
Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) to host a statewide
life sciences/biomedical cluster update event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on

networking event and BioFlorida Open House from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The

BioFlorida is calling all geniuses – BioGENEiuses that is. High school
students (grades 9-12) enrolled in science-related courses are invited
to submit applications to the Florida BioGENEius Challenge, which is a
stepping stone to the U.S. National BioGENEius Challenge. National
winners then move on to compete for $19,000 in cash prizes at the
Biotechnology Institute’s International BioGENEius Challenge, the most
prestigious high school science competition in the world for original

BioFlorida hosted its 4th Annual BioFlorida Legislative Day
in Tallahassee on Feb. 16 to address the concerns and future needs of
Florida’s biotechnology and life science companies. The event was
attended by 21 BioFlorida members who met with 20 legislators serving on
substantive and appropriations committees that have jurisdiction over
issues of importance to BioFlorida and its member companies. The group,
which is the trade association for Florida’s bioscience industry that
represents more than 200 member companies and research organizations in
the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device fields, also heard
presentations by Chancellor Frank T. Brogan of the State University
System of Florida; Rebecca Rust, director of the Labor Market Statistics
Center at the Agency for Workforce Innovation; Florida TaxWatch; and
from the Legislative Biotech Caucus. ..
